Kickball
Kickball is a great game that helps to promote and build cooperation amongst its players. This game is quick and easy to set-up, and the rules for the game are almost exactly like baseball. Instead of hitting a baseball with a bat, you will use a red ball and kick it. This game is a P.E. classic and is engaging for all who play!
Kickball
Rules
- Players will need to be separated into 2 teams.
- The game is played on a baseball diamond, and contains many of the same rules as baseball.
- The ball is most commonly played a red ball, but can be played with a soccer ball as well.
- A player from their own team, or the instructor will pitch the ball towards the Kicker. The ball must roll on the ground or bounce on
the ground at least 3 times for it to be an acceptable pitch.
- The team on offense (when they are kicking the ball) will continue to be on offense until they get "3 outs" against them, or until they
score 7 runs in 1 inning; whichever comes first. When one of these occurs, the two teams will switch sides. The team on offense
will go to play defense, and vice versa.
- When a team gets 2 "outs" they take the field and the opposing team should quickly sit in their "kicking order". The pitcher is
allowed to pitch as soon as their team is seated (as long as there is not a safety problem) even if the opposing team is not fully in
position so run to your spots.
- When it is a players turn to kick the ball, they must kick it with force. They are not allowed to "bunt" the ball (kicking the ball with
minimal force)
- If a ball is kicked out of bounds, it is called a "foul ball".
- If a ball is kicked and it stays within the boundaries, the player that kicked the ball must run to 1st base without getting out. If the
player is able to run to the other bases they are allowed.
- It is illegal to have two runners on one base.
- All base runners are "forced" to run to the next base when the ball hits the ground (and stays fair) except if there is an open base
behind them. there is always a "force out" at first base where a touch of the base while holding the ball results in an "out". The
same is true of all bases that runners are "forced" to go to on a "ground ball".
- A base runner is not allowed to advance to the next base on a "foul ball"
- A "dead ball" is called (runners can't advance unless they are more than half way to the base up ahead) when the fielding team
throws the ball to the pitcher
- 5 ways to get someone "out" are:
1.111 1) Strike out - No fair kick in 2 pitches
2) Fly out - Ball is caught prior to hitting the ground
3) Tag out - Touched with the ball while between two bases, this includes having the ball thrown at them and hitting them while
they are between two bases.
4) Force out - Fielder touches base (that runner is "forced" to go to) while holding the ball.
5) Rule book out - This includes such situations as:
- A team is not sitting down in kicking order when ball is pitched
- A pitcher interferes with the kick (the ball can not hit the pitcher)
- The ball hits a base runner directly from a kick
- A base runner "leads off" on base (they must stay on base until the pitch crosses "home plate")
- If a "fly out" occurs with runners on base, the base runners need to stay on their original base they started on before the pitch. If a
base runner starts to go the next base while a "fly out" occurs, the defense may tag the base the base runner was originally at with
the ball and get that base runner out. (creating a double-play)
- There is no sliding allowed at any point during this game.
- No
- The game is played until time runs out. Whichever team has the most combined points is declared the winner!
