Dodgeball
Rules
- Dodgeball is made up of two equal teams.
- There will be a coned area for each team. The two coned areas will be lined up with about a 5 foot space between them. This space
between the two coned areas is called the "Moat". At no point during the game is a player allowed inside the Moat. If a player is
able to reach a dodgeball in the Moat without touching the ground of the Moat, they are allowed to take the dodgeball.
- If a player on that team leaves their coned area they are out of the game. The only time a player is allowed to leave their coned area
is when they are knocked out of the game
- Different ways a player gets out of the game:
- If a player is inside of the Moat
- If a player is outside of their coned area
- If a player is hit with a ball anywhere on their body besides the head (if they duck down and get hit in the head they are out).
The ball must be in the air the entire time before hitting the player. If the ball first hits the ground by rolling or bouncing, the
player who gets hit is still in the game.
- If a player's clothing is hit with a dodgeball. This includes shirts, shorts, jackets, sweaters, shoes, and hats.
- If a player's hair touches their shoulders, and a dodgeball hits their hair only, that does not count. If a player's hair does not
reach to their shoulders and a dodgeball hits their hair, they are out.
- If a player throws a dodgeball and the other team catches it in the air.
- If a player throws a dodgeball and you hit the other team in the head while they are standing up.
- If a player throws it to their teammate and they drop it, they player who dropped the dodgeball is out. It is safer for the player
who is inside of the playing area to throw the ball to a teammate who is currently out of the game.
- If a player who is inside of the playing area throws a dodgeball to their teammate who is out, and the dodgball is intercepted and
caught by an opposing player, the player who threw the dodgeball is out.
- Once a player gets out of the game, they go on the outside of the coned area behind the other teams cones. They do not go through
the Moat to get there, but around on the outside of the playing area. The player must exit the playing area on the side they are
closest to. They are not allowed to travel across the playing area just to exit on the other side.
- Once a player gets out, they have to drop the dodgeball(s) they are holding. They are not allowed to take the dodgeball(s) with them
as they leave the playing area to go behind the cones of the opposing team
- Once they are out of the game and behind the other team, there are 2 different ways they are able to get back in. The 1st way they
are allowed back into the game is if a player from their team throws a ball to them in the air and they catch it while they are behind
the playing area of the opposing team. If they catch it on the side of the opposing team it does not count.. If they catch it they go
around the coned perimeter and return to the game. The 2nd way they get back into the game is if they pick up one of the dodgeballs
and throw it to their teammate while they are standing behind the opposing teams playing area. If they throw it while standing on the
side of the opposing team's playing area, it does not count. If their teammate is able to catch the ball in the air, they are allowed to
re-enter the game.
- If at anytime the player who is out enters the playing area of the opposing team, they are not allowed to get back into the playing
area for the rest of the game.
- Once you are out, you can go on the side of the playing area to get stray dodgeballs, but you must go back behind the opposing
team in order to throw it. If you are getting the stray dodgeballs, you are not allowed to go past the Moat line.
- If a dodgeball is thrown at a player and bounces off of them and then hits another player on the same team, they are both out.
- If a dodgeball is thrown at a player and bounces off of them and then another player on the same team then catches the
ball, the person who threw the dodgeball is out.
- If a player tries to catch a dodgeball that is thrown at them, and they drop the dodgeball, they are out.
- You are never allowed to purposefully kick the dogeballs. If you do purposefully kick the dogeballs you will be automatically out of
the game. You may have to sit out the entire game and wait for a new game to begin before you are allowed to play again.
- Once you are out of the game, you need to treat the playing area as you would the Moat. You are never allowed inside of it, but if
there is a dodgeball you are able to grab without touching the ground of the playing area, that is allowed.
- A player is allowed to fall to the floor in an attempt to dodge the dodgeballs. If a player does fall to the ground they must immediately
stand back up. If they continue to lay there, or start to roll or crawl, they will be called out.
- A player is only allowed to have 1 ball in their possession at a time. If they hold 2 dodgeballs at anytime they are out of the game.
- A player is allowed to use the ball in their hand to deflect or block dodgeballs that are being thrown at them
- A team wins the game when they have knocked out all of the other team's players.
